Green River Community College (2005)
$1,690,000 project cost, $201,000 annual energy savings, $337,000 utility incentive.
Scope
Installed and upgraded energy management system (EMS) throughout 12 buildings. EMS incorporated CO2 and occupancy sensors, and controlled all HVAC systems in each building.
Retrofit HVAC systems in Student Center and Science Buildings to variable air volume, with variable speed drives and new controls. Installed new domestic hot water boilers in both buildings. Performed a comprehensive retrofit of existing fixtures to T-8 lamps and electronic ballasts throughout campus. Replaced water closets throughout campus with new, low flow fixtures. Upgraded sinks & urinals. Replaced main water shutoff valve for campus (old valve was leaking). Retrofit various irrigation systems with new heads, and added drip systems. Installed two new trash compactors.
Notable Facts
- All work performed in occupied buildings. Work performed in 16 buildings without any interruptions.
- Greatly improved comfort, indoor air quality, and energy savings.
“… the work was done with incredible efficiency, background expertise, and with a scope of understanding that was at times beyond expectations and often led to improved operations at the campus as well as savings… The upgrades continue to perform as advertised and the energy/utility savings are being realized. I am extremely impressed with the overall professionalism and expertise of the Quantum staff to bring creative options to a table where problems seem to prevail. I highly recommend them for any organization considering an ESCo project with complex program challenges.”

New Energy
Efficiency Grants

For Washington’s K-12 schools, colleges and universities there’s never been a better time to pursue energy and water conservation based facility improvements, with $100 million in competitive grants available to support these activities and create jobs. And there is no ESCo with a more successful track record of securing these competitive grants than Quantum. A pilot program in 2009 saw grants awarded to 50 school districts – 24 of which are Quantum customers. For more information on how to take advantage of the new grants, call Fritz Feiten at (206) 523-5314.
